Sub-Zero launches the new high performance built-in Refrigerator/Freezers, using pioneering technology developed for NASA. The worldwide leader in premium refrigeration has engineered a new built-in line to meet the demands for sleek and integrated appliances combined with state of the art expertise.
The flush-fitting design of the largest built-in model discretely houses a vast capacity of 802 litres which has been fully utilised with intelligent storage solutions. Refrigerator, freezer and wine storage models can be placed side by side with a dual length grille spanning the appliances for seamless design continuity.
The built-in series is available in overlay and Sub-Zero’s classic stainless steel configurations. A new flush installation is offered to blend the appliance seamlessly into the room design. The grille has been reduced by approximately 1.5 mm for a cleaner look with optional sizes available and the grille flips up for easy access to the water filter and cleaning condenser.
Specifications include:
As the innovators of food preservation, Sub-Zero has adopted a system that purifies the air inside the refrigerator; a process that was developed initially for NASA to aid food preservation.
The system has been incorporated to eliminate odours, viruses, bacteria and ethylene gases given off by foods using small tubes coated with titanium dioxide that are enclosed in a box along with a UV light; the light activates the titanium dioxide which causes a reaction to produce oxidising agents that eliminate harmful compounds.
An advanced lighting system with a concealed light source to evenly illuminate each section.
The cantilevered glass shelves are spill-proof and make repositioning simple and quick. In-door shelves are adjustable in 25 mm increments for complete flexibility.
A fixed deli drawer and the lower door shelves are ideal for storing smaller items such as condiments and bottles.
Wire shelves have been added to the freezer compartments for convenient storage.
A ‘max ice’ function increases the rate of ice production by 40% over 24 hours, making it ideal for entertaining.
‘Freshness cards’ are stored inside the unit offering a guideline for the ideal storage and lifespan of different food types.
The dual compressor system ensures a controlled and optimum temperature environment with the two compressors in the fridge and the freezer work independently of each other and help to preserve energy.
Fruits, vegetables and meat can be stored in the deli drawer at 1 degree celcius cooler than the main refrigeration unit helping to keep the food fresher for longer.
Sub-Zero's Built-In line is priced from £6,014.50 including VAT.

Britain throws away a third of food each year, equating to 6.7million tonnes of waste, according to WRAP’s ‘Love Food Hate Waste’ campaign (www.wrap.org.uk). If we bought our food with more consideration, stored it better, cooked with more planning and used more leftover’s, our amount of waste would decrease significantly. Sub-Zero, the luxury American refrigeration manufacturer, is at the forefront of technological design and continues to take pioneering steps to aid food preservation and combat wastage. In early 2009, Sub-Zero will launch the new 600 Series built-in refrigeration line. An innovative system for ‘scrubbing’ the air inside the refrigerator has been developed. The system which is designed to eliminate odours, viruses, bacteria and the gases given off by other stored items was originally developed by NASA. It uses small tubes coated with titanium dioxide that are enclosed in a box along with a UVC light, the light activates the titanium dioxide, causes a reaction and this reaction produces oxidizing agents that eliminate the harmful compounds and keeps produce fresher for longer. Sub-Zero’s PRO 48 refrigerator / freezer is proven to keep foods fresher for longer with three separate temperature zones, a unique dual compressor and triple evaporation system. Elements such as high humidity and no air, moisture or odour transfer circulation meaning is preserved in optimum conditions. Accurate individual temperature compartments can be adjusted for certain food types to keep lettuce crisp, coffee dry, and fruit and vegetables fresh. Craig Davies, President and CEO Europe for Sub-Zero comments, “The PRO 48 features a dual compressor system, which is completely unique to Sub-Zero and proven to keep food fresher for longer. Other refrigerator units with only a single compressor are prone to temperature fluctuations, which can lead to unnecessary food wastage. With Sub-Zero’s exclusive dual compressor system there are separate compressors within the fridge and freezer sections, enabling each compartment to operate independently. This enables valuable energy to be saved as temperature levels within each compartment remain stable whilst the other section is being used. It also ensures that items are stored in the most optimum temperature and atmospheric conditions, preserving food produce for longer and preventing unnecessary wastage. This all helps to reduce your overall carbon footprint by avoiding disposing of unused food and also extra journeys to the supermarket to replenish your fridge.” Sub-Zero offer American appliances which are more technologically advanced and environmentally-friendly than the American-style fridges traditionally available in the UK. Although large in capacity, Sub-Zero’s best selling PRO 48 design is ‘A rated,’ the highest energy efficient standard for residential use and uses less energy than a 100 watt light bulb per day. Here are some tips for preserving food more responsibly and tackling wastage: • Sub-Zero recommends setting your refrigerator at 4 degrees Celsius and freezer at -17 degrees Celsius for optimum preservation temperatures • Refrigerate or freeze leftovers as soon as possible to keep freshness. If hot, wait for the food to cool before storing in air-tight containers or covered with cling-film • Do not re-freeze food if it has been de-frosted • Store food groups such as fruit and vegetables, dairy products and meat in separate temperature compartments for the optimum preservation environment • If possible, recycle all food packaging
